Rockin Guitar Quilt/ThermOWeb/Blend Fabrics

Hi this is Jenifer here with you to share a quilt that I made for my 12 year old daughter using the amazing fabrics from the Hello World collection from Blend Fabrics.  My daughter is in the stage where she is to big for baby stuff but not quite big enough for a full blown grown up room.  The flower print that  I have in the guitars was just to beautiful not to use as my center point.  I love that in art, quilting and scrapbooking or whatever interests and hobbies you have, you can take what you love and get it out in your favorite medium.  Don't be afraid to just create, some times great things happen when you just go for it.

For the guitars I didn't have a pattern I just traced out her guitar onto my feather lite interfacing.  Since I knew there were going to be several layers of fabrics and interfacings I cut out the center of the of the feather lite leaving about a 1" piece around the edge of the guitar.  To get a pattern for the smaller pieces I took a piece of paper and did a rubbing with a pencil to get the shapes I needed.  Cut out the pieces and then transfer them to the Feather lite and you are now ready to put the guitar together.

Once I had the guitar sewed down and in place I felt it needed a little bit more attention and so I did some hand stitching around all the extra components and with some lovely silver embroidery floss I mimicked the strings on the guitar.  This was definitely a bit more work but I feel that it was well worth it in the end.

This fabric line also had some super cute little animal panels that I just had to incorporate into the quilt.  There is one at each corner and one as the centerpiece for the back.  I plan on making a couple pillows with my left over scraps.

For the backing I pieced together some of the fabrics and put a fun panel in the center.  I always have a rough time with pieced quilt backings and making sure everything is centered and straight before quilting.  To help me with this I used the fusible fleece as my batting.  I adhered it to the backing fabric and it made it very easy to keep all of my layers easily aligned when putting together my quilt sandwich.  Quilt as desired.  I chose to use all of the leftovers from the fabrics to create a scrappy binding that ties the entire quilt together.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my quilt today.  Make sure you stop by my blog later in the month to see how the pillows turned out that go with this quilt.
